Canada launches a $29 million tech project to develop world-class solutions for monitoring fish health, fish movement and the environment
On 28 July 2020, Canada launched a $29 million project to develop and commercialize solutions for monitoring fish health, fish movement, and the environment to make marine sectors more sustainable. The project is called the Ocean Aware Project, and has been launched by Canada’s Ocean Supercluster alongside project partners including Innovasea.
Navdeep Bains, Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry has recognised that, “as the country with the longest coastline, the Ocean Supercluster is helping Canada capitalize on our natural advantages, establishing itself as a hotbed for innovation and collaboration. The Ocean Aware project is a great example of the Supercluster’s ability to bring together a variety of industry partners to develop new aquaculture technology and further support sustainable fishing practices,”
Canada’s Ocean Supercluster seeks to bring an innovative model for growth that reduces risk for Canadian companies, and aims to increase collaboration and improve data exchange across ocean sectors, creating a platform for the development for commercial, sustainable ocean solutions. The project team is aiming to enable ocean growth that is sustainable to place Canada as a leader in the marine sector, while also helping grow the economy, foster innovation and creative thinking, and create jobs.
