Chinova Bioworks to Ramp up Production of their Mushroom-Based Preservative

Chinova Bioworks is a New Brunswick-based company that’s using mushrooms to reduce food waste. It’s their intention to transform the food and beverage industry with a natural, clean-label shelf-life extender – from white button mushrooms. Recently, they have announced their plan to ramp up production of their flagship ingredient, Chiber, to try and meet the demand for their products.

Chiber is made from the upcycled and otherwise wasted stems of white button mushrooms to create a synthetic-free preservative. The addition of a 20,000 sq ft facility – the Bioscience Manufacturing Incubator – as well as a 6,000 sq ft space to host their R&D and office. This vegan-friendly, non-GMO, and allergen-free preservative is made from mushrooms sourced from New Brunswick farmers – reducing food-waste and providing an additional revenue stream for farmers. With the increased demand for their products, they are hoping to expand their product line and use R&D to stay ahead in this sector.
